TOPIC GUIDES  > Lupus

Lupus is an auto-immune condition whereby various tissues in the body become inflamed.  A persons immune system is used to fight and destroy disease-causing bacteria and viruses.  Having an auto-immune illness is when the body mistakenly attacks their perfectly healthy body tissue.

Lupus can be mild or life-threatening depending on which tissues are affected.  It can occur in any susceptible person of either sex and any age and its cause is unknown at this stage.
