Heart burn is a burning sensation that is located in the chest.  It is caused by stomach acid backing up into the esophagus.  Heartburn is extremely common in the Australian population and in most cases can easily be managed with simple lifestyle changes and over-the-counter antacid medications.

Contributing factors to heartburn include:

  • obesity,
  • pregnancy,

  • medications and
  • hiatus hernia.
