TOPIC GUIDES > Being a carerA carer is someone who
is looking after a friend, relative or neighbour who needs support
because of their sickness, age, physical or learning disability or
illness, including mental illness.
The role of a carer is an incredibly demanding job that is usually
unpaid. Many people who are carers do not see themselves as such
because, first and foremost, they may be husbands, wives, partners,
parents, siblings or friends. However, by providing care and
support they are in fact "carers" and, therefore, have rights.
The links below will provide you with detailed information about
being a carer and the benefits that are available.
